Hitfilm activations are tied to the user's email account and controlled via an FXhome server in some way. If one were to download an earlier version of the software from a third party site that would now be theft of property as the company that has the legal right to distribute (or not) the software has chosen to NOT distribute those earlier versions in favor of the current version. Now that FXhome has chosen to discontinue distribution of earlier versions of the software - and has chosen to no longer issue activation licenses for those earlier versions - the copyright on the software is still in place. The last comment I left is something I feel strongly enough about to copy/paste here, just to make sure you see it.ĭisregarding u/BaronNobody 's well reasoned comments about risky downloads, yes, even though FXhome gave away Hitfilm Express for free (and still has a free tier), it can still be pirated.įree or not, Hitfilm is still proprietary, copywritten software, which, in simplest terms means FXhome/Artlist has the legal right to distribute the software (or not) and control which third party sites are allowed to host downloads of the software (or not).
